Sales tax now applies to some services

Starting October 1: Some business services are now subject to retail sales tax, as required by state law, ESSB 5814. When you buy these services, vendors should add sales tax to your bill. Orting joins state combined licensing service

OLYMPIA, WASH. – Feb. 7, 2019 – Orting joins its neighbors, Puyallup and Sumner, as a partner in the state business licensing service (BLS).

Orting businesses can now use the combined licensing service that connects dozens of regional communities and state agency registrations. The service is free for all Washington cities, and 16 of 21 cities in Pierce County are BLS partners.

The service allows local businesses to apply for hundreds of required state and local registrations in a one-stop-shop. The department manages one of the few systems nationwide allowing businesses to register with state agencies and cities in a single transaction. Find out more at http://bls.dor.wa.gov/.
