Sales tax now applies to some services

Starting October 1: Some business services are now subject to retail sales tax, as required by state law, ESSB 5814. When you buy these services, vendors should add sales tax to your bill. Burlington joins Skagit neighbors as state combined licensing partner

OLYMPIA, WASH. – April 11, 2019 – Today, the Department of Revenue announces a budding business partnership with the city of Burlington as the newest local licensing partner for the state’s Business Licensing Service.

Burlington joins neighbors Anacortes, Mount Vernon, Sedro Woolley and many other Northwest Washington communities that chose to connect state and local licensing through BLS.

Burlington businesses now have a streamlined online process for license applications, renewals and payments. Through BLS, businesses can apply for state and local business registrations in a single transaction.

Revenue manages one of the few systems nationwide allowing businesses to register with state agencies and cities in a single transaction. Learn more about BLS at bls.dor.wa.gov, including the complete list of partner cities.
