Sales tax now applies to some services

Starting October 1: Some business services are now subject to retail sales tax, as required by state law, ESSB 5814. When you buy these services, vendors should add sales tax to your bill. Businesses with unreported investment income subject to B&O tax may qualify for penalty and interest relief under a temporary program starting July 1, 2025.

Services newly subject to retail sales tax

Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill (ESSB) 5814 added new business activities to the definition of retail sales. This means businesses must begin collecting sales tax on these services on October 1, 2025.
