OLYMPIA – Sept. 27, 2013 – Washington State Department of Revenue Director Carol K. Nelson today announced the appointment of John Ryser as the new assistant director for Revenue’s Audit Division. Ryser begins the position on Oct. 10, 2013.
Ryser has more than 25 years of experience with Revenue in the Audit and Taxpayer Account Administration divisions. In his most recent position as an out-of-state field audit manager, Ryser oversaw the agency’s team conducting national audits in six southeastern states.
“John brings a combination of leadership, analytic and communication skills that make him a great asset to the agency,” said Nelson. “His experience will be invaluable in helping Revenue focus on our priorities of enhancing customer service and fair and consistent tax policy.”
In his new role, Ryser will be responsible for leading the Audit Division in its mission to conduct quality audits that ensure accurate tax collection while encouraging taxpayers to voluntarily comply with state tax laws.
In fiscal year 2013, Revenue collected $18.5 billion dollars from nearly 60 different taxes. These revenues support many of the state’s essential public services, including education, social services, health care, corrections, and natural resources conservation.
