Olympia, Wash., May 17, 2012 –The Spokane office of the Washington State Department of Revenue is hosting a free workshop for businesses interested in selling spirits (hard liquor) as the result of the recent passage of Initiative 1183.
I-1183 privatized spirits sales in Washington, requiring the Liquor Control Board to close all state liquor stores on May 31, and allowing private spirits retailers to sell spirits to the general public beginning June 1.
The workshop is scheduled for:
Tuesday, May 29, at 10 a.m.
3rd Floor Conference Room A
Rock Pointe III
1330 N. Washington St.
Spokane, WA 99201
To register, visit the Department’s website and click on the "Register Online" link for the May 29 workshop, or call (509) 327-0200. Space is limited.
Participants will learn how to obtain a license to sell spirits; what taxes apply to spirits (spirits sales tax, spirits liter tax, business and occupation tax, retail sales tax); how to calculate, report, and pay the taxes; and how to document that the right spirits tax rate was collected.
The Department also has a wealth of information on this topic at dor.wa.gov/spirits. In addition, anyone interested in receiving email updates regarding spirits tax law can sign up for our spirits listserv at dor.wa.gov/listserv.
