Everett – March 7, 2012 – An Everett siding contractor was charged today with first degree theft of more than $45,000 in sales tax he collected on jobs but never remitted to the state.

The Washington State Attorney General’s Office filed the charge against Venianmin M. Semenyuk, 27, in Snohomish County Superior Court at the request of the Washington State Department of Revenue.

Semenyuk has operated Quality Exterior, Inc. since 2006.  His license was revoked by the Department of Revenue on May 12, 2011.

According to the charging papers, the Department audited Semenyuk after he failed to file any required state tax returns on his business.

The audit included a review of sales reports, sales invoices, filed federal income tax returns and business bank statements.

Semenyuk refused to provide the Department with a copy of his paid retail sales invoices, but the auditor was able to obtain a substantial number of issued invoices the company provided to customers.  A majority of the sales invoices listed the retail sales tax charged for the work performed.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of $20,000 and ten years in prison.
